Export WAV voor CD Baby

1. Disable “Wave Extensible” and “Broadcast” Chunks

In the File Format section of the Export window (usually on the right side), look for these checkboxes:

  • Insert Broadcast Wave Chunk: UNCHECK THIS. This adds timestamps and project info that CD Baby’s uploader flags as “invalid data.”

  • Insert iXML Chunk: UNCHECK THIS. This adds Steinberg-specific metadata (like your project name and author) that isn’t standard for simple stereo playback.

  • Don’t Use Wave Extensible Format: CHECK THIS BOX. By checking this, you are telling Cubase to use the most basic “PCM” format possible, which is what distributors want.

2. Dithering (Crucial for 16-bit)

Since you are exporting at 16-bit, you must ensure you aren’t just “truncating” the audio (chopping off the extra bits), which can cause low-level distortion.

  • The Plugin: Make sure you have the Lin Dither (or a 3rd-party dither like UV22HR) as the very last slot on your Stereo Out channel.

  • The Setting: Set the dither to 16-bit.

  • Note: Only use dither once. If your mastering limiter (like FabFilter Pro-L2 or Ozone) already has dither turned on, do not use the Cubase Lin Dither plugin.

3. The “Safe” Cubase Export Checklist

To ensure CD Baby never rejects your file again, use these exact settings in the Export Audio Mixdown window:

Setting Selection
File Format Wave File (.wav)
Sample Rate 44.100 kHz
Bit Depth 16-bit
Export Mode Interleaved (Stereo)
Naming Scheme Avoid symbols like &, #, ( ), or . (other than the .wav extension)
